Children’s Hunger Fund and Dominate the GMAT: A Healthy Partnership

10% of DTG’s proceeds go to feeding hungry children around the world

It has been said that a person can live forty days without food, four days without water, four minutes without air, but only four seconds without hope. Hope restores faith to a life that has been robbed of dignity. As Mother Theresa once said, “There is more hunger in the world for love and appreciation than for bread.”

Enter Children’s Hunger Fund.

When I founded Dominate the GMAT several years ago, I wanted to be about more than just helping people to improve their GMAT score. While I believe that success in business is a worthy and noble goal, I also believe that we should be about more than that — that we have an obligation to positively impact those in need around the world as we pursue our own goals and dreams. That is why we donate 10% of all the revenue generated from our GMAT online courses to the Children’s Hunger Fund (CHF).

Why Children’s Hunger Fund? Why should you care?

Every minute of every day, somewhere in the world, 21 children die of malnutrition and preventable disease.  Even when it doesn’t kill, chronic malnutrition can cause blindness, deformities and brain damage. In the Developing World, malnutrition manifests itself in equally devastating ways.  Malnutrition can severely affect a child’s intellectual development.  Malnourished children often have stunted growth and score significantly lower on math and language achievement tests than do well-nourished children.  Lack of dietary diversity and essential minerals and vitamins also contributes to increased child and adult mortality.  Deficiency in even one essential vitamin, for example Vitamin A, can impair a child’s immune system which increases the annual death toll from measles and other diseases by an estimated 1.2 million – 2.5 million children.

Founded by Dave Phillips in 1992, Children’s Hunger Fund addresses these issues in a number of important ways:

  • They deliver Food Packs packed with nutritious foods door-to-door;
  • They’ve created Mercy Networks to help facilitate the distribution of food, clothing, medicine, and toys;
  • They provide disaster relief when Mother Nature leaves children without food or shelter;
  • They provide orphan care, leadership training, and other services;
  • They deliver school supplies, nutritional supplements, and toys to underprivileged kids

In addition to the incredible services and life-changing nutrition and food that Children’s Hunger Fund provides, Dominate the GMAT has also chosen to partner with CHF because they’ve consistently been rated by numerous publications as one of the world’s most efficient charity, with more than 99 cents out of every dollar going direction to kids in needs. We think that’s pretty remarkable.

The tangible results CHF is seeing on the ground are equally remarkable. For example, a few years ago Dave Philips met a young girl in Africa.  She had been abandoned and left for dead at the doorstep of a baby home.  The child was severely malnourished, had a facial tumor protruding from her cheek, and had a cleft lip. When she was examined, the doctors concluded that she was way too weak to survive the surgery that was required to save her life.  The director of the baby home immediately placed the young girl on Usanimals, a children’s vitamin provided by USANA Health Sciences, a company that also has a partnership with CHF.  Just 30 days later, the girl was healthy enough to go through a successful surgery and is now “flourishing in that orphanage setting,” according to Dave.
