GMAT Reading Comprehension Questions

Tip of the Week for the week of October 24, 2011

This week’s GMAT tip* is to focus on the first and last sentence in each paragraph of GMAT reading comprehension passages. Check out this video to see why, and how it will help you read more quickly and get more right answers:

GMAT Tip of the Week: On GMAT reading comprehension questions, it is important that you read the passages in the most effective and efficient way to ensure that you have enough time to answer all the questions, and that you’ve understood the major points of the passage well enough to get right answers.

A useful strategy for doing so is to read only the first and last sentence of each paragraph on the first read-through. If you’re a slow reader, this will greatly improve your speed and save you time; even if you’re a fast reader, this strategy will still help you zero in on the most important parts of the passage so that you come away with a solid big-picture understanding of the author’s main point(s) and the overall structure of the passage — important understandings for answering most GMAT reading comprehension questions.

Still worried that you need to read every single word in a passage? Give this tip a try — I know it will pay huge dividends for you, and help you to dominate the GMAT!
